The Delhi Metro has a combination of both an elevated train system and an underground metro network. It is efficient in its performance as well as eco-friendly. The stations are well maintained, organized and kept clean with the best efforts from the DMRC. Not only this, the stations are well secured with CCTV cameras and security guards keeping an eye on the movement of passengers. In addition to this the stations are designed to keep away the possibility of a fire. Last year, some fire safety week feature was observed by Delhi Metro employees. One of the employees said, “The DMRC trains and stations have been designed to keep the possibility of a fire to the minimum. These include selection of non-combustible or fire-retardant material, proper separation of plant rooms from public areas, provision of fireman's entrance staircase and emergency escape staircases” (Source: Zee News). Not only this, the DMRC has hired private companies to install and set up 25 LED screens which will be around 150 inches wide. The TVs will display information such as the time-table for the trains and other important information.
The Metro rail project received a surplus when the DMRC decided the extend the projects to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Delhi railway station. According to the Hindu Business line, “The link between the New Delhi station and the Indira Gandhi International Airport will be about 19 km long and comprise underground and elevated sections. There will be intermediate stations at Shivaji Stadium and Moti Bagh. Trains will cover the entire distance in 16 minutes and check-in facilities will be available at New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium and Moti Bagh stations.”
The rolling stock of the Delhi metro is manufactured by Hyundai ROTEM. The Hyundai ROTEM is a part of the Hyundai Motors Group, South Korea.
