The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor is going to prove a surplus to India's increasing economy. It is aimed at providing an increase in the infrastructure of the industry across six states in India. These states are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and the National Capital Region (NCR) of New Delhi.

Gujarat will occupy around 62% of the DMIC and will share a major portion of the progress of the corridor. The state has already seen massive investments in the recent years. With more and more foreign companies investing in this state, Gujarat is progressing day by day in the right direction. Massive infrastructure projects have been planned across the states. The Ahmedabad Baroda expressway has already provided a faster transportation between the two cities. The main projects in the DMIC in Gujarat will focus on the following:
  • Greenfield International Airport at Fedara (Upgrading of Surat and Vadodara Airports)
  • Greenfield Ports at Dholera (Special Investment Region) and Maroli
  • Bharuch-Dahej Mega-Industrial Region
  • Surat-Hazira-Navsari Industrial Region
  • Valsad-Umbergaon Industrial Region
  • 3000-3500 MW Thermal Power Plant near Dholera

Termed as "The Mother of All Investments" by Express India, the DMIC is bound to create around 3 million jobs, and occupy around 40% of the total 1483 km route of the DMIC in Gujarat. Apart from this, the Japanese External Trade Organization or JETRO is bound to invest around 40 billion USD in Gujarat for the development along this corridor. (Source: Express India).

Another project, termed as Mini Japan is expected to come up around 90 kms south of Ahmedabad. According to Indiatimes, " The Gujarat government has closed in on 100 sq km of land between Federa and Dholera for the proposed 'Mini-Japan' township".

A recent news from the Hindu Business, the Hindustan Construction  Company (HCC) was awarded the contract of building a waterfront at Dholera, an investment of Rs 40,000 crore. The project will be similar to the Lavasa project that is being developed in Pune by HCC. HCC is also the company undertaking the construction of the Bandra Worli Sea Link project in Mumbai. (However due to delays this project has seen, the project is due to open to public on May 1, 2009, already around 3-4 years behind schedule).
