The latest development on the BWSL
February 14, 2009 by Bhargav Sura

Enough has been said and done in the past ten years. The dream of the Mumbaikars experiencing a smooth ride from Bandra to South Mumbai has still not been realized. Thought it has been said over and over again, it is pain to write that our planners are still not learning.

From the deadline of January 2009 came the May 2009 deadline. The work is still not completed. Ten years and on, there is plenty of work left. From the website, the following figures might give you a very clear idea of how much work is left to be completed. Though  you might think that this is not a lot to be completed, it is going to take some time until the citizens of Mumbai see themselves breezing amidst the sea.

Thus from the above table, one can see that they are a few stones away from completing the bridge. But however, it will take a month or two to complete the finishing work like lane markings, coloring the bridge, adding the lightings and railings on the bridge, and completing the electrical work. So I am expecting that the government finsih the work asap and that there is no further delay to this.

A future plan of the sea link includes extension of the sea link to Haji Ali and from there to Nariman Point. If things go as planned, then Mumbai will have the most sophisticated network of expressway in the world. A future planning should also include connectivity of such sea links to each other and a construction of the Nhava Sewri Sea Link and a connectivity to that link as well
